BE PART OF THE 100 CLUB

Express Reinforcements Ltd [Express], a member of the British Association of Reinforcement, has launched a new sustainability campaign.

‘The 100 Club’ is open to all clients and contractors who acknowledge the benefits of sourcing sustainable reinforcement with 100% UK supply chain traceability and also those that want to be part of the drive to provide much needed opportunity for security and ultimately growth within the long suffering UK manufacturing and construction employment markets.

In addition, by partnering with Express there is now the industry game changer of being able to record 100% accurate CO2 figures for the Cut & Bent Rebar on a project. This ground breaking initiative gives CO2 calculations for the mill but now goes way further and includes CO2 values for transportation from the mill to the Express factory and also the Cut & Bent Rebar production process itself. For even more in depth reporting on larger projects, further CO2 data can be included which would add in the associated CO2 value for transportation from the Express Cut & Bent factory to a construction site. This data can be corroborated through Express’ Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) which has recently been updated and re-issued by a 100% fully independent certifying body.

Since 2009, 100% of the reinforcing materials used by Express to produce Cut & Bent Rebar has been sourced from CELSA in South Wales. CELSA produce 100% of their products, via the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) recycled scrap route which is the most sustainable production method currently available. As a guide, the EAF production process on average produces 4 to 5 times less CO2 than the Blast Furnace route which relies on the mining of precious earth resources in the form of virgin iron ore.

Express can say with pride that its Cut & Bent Rebar provides the lowest CO2 impact when compared to other sources of general market Cut & Bent Rebar currently available in the UK. In particular Express Cut & Bent Rebar offers significant CO2 reductions when compared to suppliers who source imported reinforcing bar for their Cut & Bent Rebar supply.

John Collins, Express Reinforcements Ltd Managing Director, said: “Membership of ‘The 100 Club’ is open to all who wish to specify and install reinforcement that is 100% produced in the UK and has 100% sustainable credentials. We welcome all our industry colleagues with involvement in Cut & Bent Rebar, if they have used Express in the past or not, to join us in this important new chapter. It is imperative we give 100% to reduce our CO2 impact and Express, in partnership with CELSA UK, are fully behind helping the industry achieve its goals through partnerships and collaboration.
