Rebar Price Increase
Increased global demand and prices for scrap metal have resulted in reinforcement manufacturers having to increase prices by over £100 per tonne.
The rise follows a general price decrease from the summer of 2007 and reflects the volatility being experienced with other construction materials.
“The range of external price pressures and tightening of the UK market have contributed to the price increase”, explained Graham Mackenzie, Chairman of the British Association of Reinforcement. “Despite the price increase rebar and reinforced concrete remains competitively priced. Indeed a series of cost model studies, produced by Arup, Davis Langdon LLP, Mace and Allies and Morrison, have proved that reinforced concrete continues to offer the most cost effective structural solution”.
