Code of Practice for Safet Off-loading of Cut and Bent Reinforcement Issued

The British Association of Reinforcement (BAR) has issued a new code of practice for The Safe Off-loading of Cut and Bent Reinforcement. The code has been drawn up following consultation with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the UK Certification Authority for Reinforcing Steels (CARES).

Due to the potential risks involved, the movement of cut and bent reinforcement should be the subject of a risk and safe system of work assessment. The code advises how to undertake this and provides suppliers, hauliers, and customers with guidance on safe working practices. In particular, it provides information on the preparation of the load for off-loading and planning for delivery.

Issues examined include: potential hazards and accidents, working at height, recommended off-loading procedures, and vehicle access.

Copies of The Safe Off-loading of Cut and Bent Reinforcement are available as a free download from the BAR website: www.uk-bar.org
